Romania’s energy infrastructure got a major impetus recently when the European nation announced a collaboration with the U.S DOE (Department of Energy) to expand and renovate its civil nuclear power program. Dan Brouillette, U.S. Secretary of Energy and Virgil Popescu, Romania’s Minister of Economy, Energy, and Business Development, have reportedly detailed a cooperative agreement focusing on the expansion of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant.

Sources cite that the agreement will lay the foundation for the European nation to leverage U.S technology and expertise with multinational team developing reactor Units 3 and 4 at Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant. The collaboration will also work on refurbishing Cernavoda Unit 1.

The agreement highlights the importance of the strategic collaboration between Romania and the United States and mutual commitment to energy security in the nation. This deal will ensure electricity security, enhance economic growth, and also bring the top-notch standards of safety to bear.

Mr. Brouillette added that the deal between Romania and the U.S furthers mutual energy corporation would strengthen the energy security of both nations.

Romania is taking a crucial step forward in developing its strategic collaboration with the U.S, in terms of energy component, mainly cooperation in the civil war nuclear field, said Minister Popescu.

Romania and the U.S will continue to reinforce bilateral relationships under numerous multilateral frameworks, including the P-TEC (Partnership for the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation), developed under the U.S government. Under P-TEC, two nations are working on a civil nuclear collaboration. This working group will be at a cornerstone for expanding this commercial and strategic partnership.
