Sony to restock its new flagship PS-5 units by the end of this year

Sony, the leading Japanese conglomerate, has reportedly confirmed that it intends to restock its PS-5 (PlayStation 5) inventory by the end of 2020 after its latest launched gaming consoles went out of stock in the company’s biggest launch ever.

During an interview, Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment stated that PlayStation 5 sales are doing incredibly well, and all units have already been sold out.

The company thanked gamers across the world for making the PS5 launch the Japanese firm’s biggest console launch ever. Demand for the device is unprecedented, so the firm confirmed that more stock will be delivered to retailers before 2020 ends. To that end, the company also told customers to stay in touch with their respective retailers.

Both Microsoft Xbox and PS5 consoles are currently hard to find amid the holiday season. The Standard edition of PS5 can be purchased for $499.99 while its Digital Edition can be procured for $399.99 in the US.

Recently, UK-based data analytics firm, Ampere Analysis, anticipated that the Japanese gaming console maker might sell approximately 17.9 million PS5 units before 2021 ends. The firm also predicted that over 67 million units of PS5 would be sold by 2024.

Recently, on November 10, tech giant Microsoft also launched its Xbox Series S and Series X gaming consoles internationally. The company also stated that the launch of these two series was its biggest launch ever, but it did not disclose any particular sales figures for the same. Looking at their tremendous demand, both Xbox consoles are expected to be in short supply by the end of April 2021.

The immense number of preorders resulted in a very limited supply of gaming consoles being available on launch day. In fact, some early buyers are expected to wait till after the holidays to get their pre-ordered consoles delivered.
