SGRE bags contract for SG 4.5-145 for Vietnamese nearshore project

The order marks the introduction of this turbine model in Vietnam and is the first agreement with a leading independent power provider in Vietnam, Tan Hoan Cau JSC.

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy or SGRE, the engineering company that manufactures wind turbines and provides onshore/offshore wind services has recently bagged an contract to provide seven wind turbines, SG 4.5-145, for first phase of the firm’s first near shore project in Vietnam, Number 5 Thanh Hai. Moreover, the firm will provide operation and maintenance services for the project for ten years, cite sources.

Reportedly, Siemens Gamesa has leveraged its offshore wind power management capabilities to re-engineer onshore wind turbines, adjusting them to the marine environment, thereby ensuring reliability and lower cost of energy. The order marks the introduction of this turbine model in Vietnam and is the first agreement with a leading independent power provider in Vietnam, Tan Hoan Cau JSC, that specializes in hydro & wind power.

Richard Paul Luijendijk, Siemens Gamesa Onshore Chief Executive Officer in APAC, was reported to say that Siemens Gamesa is an industry leader in offshore wind and will leverage its skills and experience to adapt its onshore turbines to meet the requirements of the project along with optimizing project economies for the customer.

As per the terms of the agreement, SGRE will supply seven more SG 4.5-145 wind turbines for the second phase of the project. With an installed capacity of 32-megawatt, commissioning of the Number 5 Thanh Hai 1 wind farm is expected by the second half of 2020. The project is expected to help to meet Vietnam’s fast-growing energy demand. Also, the Vietnamese government has planned a target of 800 megawatt of wind power installations by 2020 and a large part of this will be in nearshore projects.

In addition to Vietnam, SGRE’s footprint in Asia Pacific extends to Japan, China, Indonesia, South Korea, Philippines, Thailand, New Zealand and Australia, where it has already installed more than 7.6 gigawatt of onshore turbines. In the offshore segment, the firm has gained a strong hold in the regions following the signing of orders to supply 1.5 gigawatt in Taiwan & preferred supplier agreements for an additional 831-megawatt Taiwan and Japan.
