Clir announces launch of optimization platform for solar assets

Clir Renewables has reportedly announced the launch of an optimization platform for the solar assets. With an aim to address the increasing gaps in the solar market, the company will be rolling out this solar platform over the next few months. There has been a constant demand from the existing clients to open AI-driven optimization and monitoring offering of the firm to multi-technology renewable portfolios.

The global utility-scale wind & solar PV electricity generation is expected to encounter a loss of $22 billion in 2022 due to technical underperformance issues. These challenges have been met by the wind power project owners by using data to help service providers address the asset performance issues.

According to Gareth Brown, Clir’s CEO, there has been a lack of innovation regarding the operations and maintenance (O&M) in the past. This has resulted in an inability of the project owners to ensure well-organized and effective solar asset management. The high-quality and comprehensive labeled data collection has also been compromised due to low spending on O&M as well as asset management.

Mr. Brown further added that the solar offering will be rolled out with a phase and milestone-based approach to the market. This will aid in addressing the relevant gaps as well as meeting the needs of the clients.

The project owners rely on the inward-looking SCADA data for solar O&M to date. This data must consider all on-site sensors for owners to identify whether the underperformances are caused by a fault in cloud cover, panel, or shade due to the immediate environment.

The AI of Clir analyzes solar asset performance and health data in the context of the owners’ environment, which helps in building an algorithm to develop an understanding of the assets as well as the industry. This will also allow them to identify both the underperformance and root cause. Since 2017, the company has been tacking the industry-wide underperformance issue, supporting asset owners across more than 6-GW of offshore and onshore wind farms.
