Valmet inks deal with Asia Paper Manufacturing to supply hard nip sizer

Finland based pulp and paper company- Valmet has reportedly inked a deal to deliver a new sizing component with a hard nip sizer to South Korea’s Asia Paper manufacturing Co. Ltd. at the Sihwa Mill.

Reportedly, the aim of the deal is for the redevelopment of paper machine PM1 to enhance the capabilities of manufactured gypsum and container board products. Although the value of this deal was not disclosed, the approximate value of such order ranges between 5 to 10 million Euros.

Kwon Tae-Yeon, Sales Manager, Valmet was reportedly quoted stating that the novel technology helps the customer to reduce the basic weight of the machine without compromising on the strength properties. Asia Paper demands a non-contact starch application technique for recycled board as it reduces the wear of consumables leading to enhanced efficiency of the machine, he further added.

In a statement by the Vice Mill Manager of Asia Paper Manufacturing Co. - Mr. Kyoung-Taek Lee, the technological expertise of Valmet will help in produce superior quality testliner and gypsum board grades at a considerably lower cost of raw materials.

For the record, Valmet is expected to deliver an OptiSizer Hard sizer along with hard nip and spray application, surface size preparation and supply solutions, a TurnFloat web turning technology, Valmet IQ quality control as well as Valmet DNA machine control systems.

Apparently, as compared to the traditional sizer, OptiSizer Hard comprises of a pair of hard covered nip rolls. It is then sprayed with starch to enhance the internal strength of the manufactured board. To increase the density of fibers, starch is dosed in the roll nip using high nip pressure. This helps in facilitating improved strength properties.

Citing sources, PM1, which is a 5,900-mm-wide wire, develops gypsum board and testliner grades with a wide weight range. The speed of the design of the new component will be approximately 850 m/min. The daily design capacity will be approximately 1,100 tons which primarily depends on the produced grade.
