Deutsche Telekom and Ericsson strike a new 5G RAN deal in Germany

Deutsche Telekom AG, and Ericsson, two of Europe’s leading telecommunication service providers, have reportedly announced that they have further consolidated their partnership through a new multi-year agreement to roll out Deutsche’s 5G RAN (Radio Access Network) throughout Germany.

Under the terms of this new deal, a number of mobile sites would be upgraded to the world’s latest 5G technology standards over the coming years using the innovative Ericsson Radio System solutions and products. The new 5G agreement comes in addition to a multi-RAN deal as the German telecom service provider moves ahead after the successful integrated modernization of its 4G, 3G, and 2G radio networks over the last two years.

The exceptional Ericsson Spectrum Sharing solution would also be deployed, enabling Deutsche Telekom to manage 5G and 4G traffic dynamically on its network by efficiently using existing enhancing coverage, spectrum, performance as well as mobility.

Claudia Nemat, Board Member, Innovation and Technology, Deutsche Telekom, stated that the company is thrilled to collaborate with Ericsson. The company has a long history of working with Ericsson, who also convinced it to modernize its mobile access network. Following the on-time and reliable modernization, the company has high expectations from Ericsson when it comes to rolling out 5G across the antenna network.

Arun Bansal, President, Latin America and Europe, Ericsson, stated that the 5G collaboration deal is a testament to Ericsson’s long-term partnership with Deutsche Telekom, in Germany and across Europe. With the company’s leading technology and global experience, it would deploy the best-in-class 5G network across Germany with Deutsche.

Apart from their collaboration in the domain of public mobile networks, both companies also work closely when it comes to facilitating industrial companies with their own private mobile networks, also known as campus networks. Recently, both companies together equipped individual Osram and BMW plant sites.
